Police Academy Calendar

The Odessa Police Department holds the Police Academy in the state-of-the-art Training Facility, located at 210 North Lincoln Avenue. Academy Training occurs mainly Monday through Friday. There is some nighttime training, and classroom hours may vary. The Academy requires Recruits to complete a minimum of 28 weeks to graduate.

The Odessa Police Academy requires Recruits to meet the highest standards expected of Texas Peace Officers. Physical fitness will be an essential component of training, as will defensive tactics.

After graduation, the Operations Bureau will assign Recruits to patrol shift assignments to begin the Field Training Program.

Range Armory

The Odessa Police Academy requires Recruits to complete 48 hours of firearm proficiency training, 24 hours of Patrol Rifle Training, 4 hours of less-lethal shotgun training, 8 hours of ASP Baton training, 8 hours of Taser Training, and 8 hours of OC Spray Training. These areas include day and nighttime qualifications with handguns, rifles, and shotguns. Students will also participate in familiarization training with various firearms and complete simulated ammunition training utilizing the Modular Armored Tactical Combat House (MATCH).
